Gravesend Ladies make history on the river

Gravesend Rowing Club made history yet again when they entered their first ever crew in the Women's Eights Head of the River Race (an international event on the Oxford-Cambridge boat race course). Though half of the crew had only been rowing for less than 6 month, they completed the course in 26:31.11. Gravesend Rowing Club has a thriving men's and ladies' section, with members rowing both socially and competitively. This year has seen a real growth in women's rowing at the club, with crews competing in races on the Medway at Maidstone and the Thames in London. Crew names in rowing order from stroke to bow: Pip Mester, Carole Trowbridge, Debbie Cassidy, Nicole Fellows, Debbie Johnson, Beverley Barrow, Sandy Johnson and Sue Beecham. They were coxed by their coach Brian Robinson.
